Airia 1.5 helps Marathoners run 1.91% more efficiently
Our second year at the Berlin Marathon Expo
Last week, the Airia Team went to Berlin and took part in the Berlin Vital Expo 2015. The expo is held during the run up to the Berlin Marathon and all runners come to the expo to pick up their starting nr and goodie bag.
Last year we came to the Berlin Vital Expo with our first shoe; the Airia One. We wanted as many dedicated runners as possible to have that opportunity to try themso we chose Berlin, which had more than 90,000 visitors for our first Expo appearance.
This year, we took a totally different approach. During the last six months we have been testing a new system called MotionMetrix. It can measure your running economy while running on a treadmill and provides key data on several parameters of your running (Step frequency, Vertical force, Symmetry, Contact time and more). What’s more, all this can be achieved without any markers on the body. After having seen significant improvements on 30% of the runners we tested, compared to their normal shoe, at Airia HQ, we decided to bring it to Berlin.
The expo was at the old airport Tempelhof just a few kilometers south of the city center. It is a historic site and was used during the ”Berlin Airlift” 1948-1949.
Throughout Thursday, Friday and Saturday runners came to try our new shoe the Airia 1.5 and have their running economy measured in comparison to their shoe of choice. After every test we went through the results and highlighted to the runner any major differences between Airia 1.5 and their own shoe. The test results were also sent to their email.
It was a busy few days of tests and many runners were impressed by how much our shoe could change the biomechanics of their running. Most for the better and some for the worse.
The average improvement in Airia 1.5 was 1.91% less energy consumption.
The great things about the Berlin Marathon Expo 2015 was the palpable excitement in the air, the enthusiasm among the runners and the anticipation for race ahead. We are truly proud to be a part of the running movement and to be helping runners achieve their dreams, whether they involve finishing their first marathon ever or running a sub 5 – 4 – 3 or 2 hour marathon.
