10 Reasons to Try Airia One Running Shoes
I was fortunate enough to receive a pair of Airia One shoes a few months after they were officially released, in early June 2014. When I applied for the blogger position at Airia, I had never heard of these shoes before. I was intrigued and I really wanted to try them to find out more.
I’ve tried many different running shoes, all claiming to do various things, from correcting running form and dynamics to offering the ultimate comfort. However, I’ve never had a running shoe claim that it’ll actually make me run faster… until I got the Aria One. The Swedish company boldly guarantees that runners wearing Airia One can shave 1-7 percent off their running times, regardless of running style or ability. In my case, I managed to set a new PR for half marathon after just one month of using the Airia One. True, I had trained hard for a mountain ultra, but shaving 6 minutes off your HM running time (from 1:45 to 1:39) is a big deal.
What is the Airia One Running Shoe?
This is unlike any running shoe I have ever worn. The first thing you see when you open the box is a warning. I’m paraphrasing, but it says:
… be careful you may not be used to exercising the muscles that will come into play… when you first put on the Airia One Running Shoe it will feel very strange… Try to relax and let the shoe geometry work for you… they are made solely for running and we mean it.
Out of the box, it’s clear that the Airia One is not your typical running shoe. It definitely stands apart from the competition. The forefoot and toe of the shoe visibly curve upwards.
Here are some of the reasons you should try this amazing running shoe.
Why You Should Try Airia One
#1 A Perfect Fit
From the moment you put the Airia Ones on, you feel like you have some sort of superpower. The classic derby cut of the upper and the soft, durable lining provide just the right touch of lightweight foam cushioning, offering a perfect fit.
#2 Road-Appropriate Design
The type of shoes you as a runner select should be designed for the type of terrain that you like to run on. Airia One is engineered for paved roads and tracks. I tested the Airia during the first 20k of an 80km trail race and they handle the occasional hard-packed dirt path, nature trail or wood-chip trail pretty well, but that’s not what they were designed for.
Airia One is fully optimized for roads and superior speed, allowing your feet a little more flexibility than some other running shoes do.
#3 High-Quality Construction
The upper material of the Airia One shoe, which is the area that circles the ankle, is open mesh with nylon topping. The insole is made of Ortholite X40, while the out-sole is made of Vibram ICE Trek rubber with LCS EVA mid-sole. This shoe will hold up to miles upon miles of running.
#4 Backed by Science
This biomechanically perfect shoe has gone through over two decades of development, and you can see that the moment you try it on. The Swedish company put a lot of effort into developing one of the fastest shoes around.
5,000 test runs have shown Airia One to cut off running time by 1-7%, regardless of running style or level.
“Personally, I have improved my speed by 5-7%. I’m a human being, not a machine, therefore the results vary from day to day, but an improvement is evident.” – Martino Pietropol
If you like a firm shoe that has a natural run feel (after a couple miles) and want to see if a shoe can actually deliver the promise of faster times, well then this might be the shoe for you.
One of the key benefits I discovered in the Airia One is the lightweight feel you get.
Also, the “awkward” feeling under the balls of your feet disappears after a few miles and the stride begins to feel pretty natural. The shoe is constructed from quality materials including the Vibram mid and out-sole.
“I probably owe something like 3.5% performance gain from the Airias.” – Tanvir Kazmi
#6 Superior Cushioning
After pounding the pavement for more than 600km in my Airia One Shoes, I’ve come to realize that the superior cushioning provides more flexibility than my old shoes. Although I’ve got a neutral foot strike, runners who usually do best in a cushioned shoes are those with high arches, a ridged foot and a tendency to supinate (roll outward during the foot strike). If you want to try a cushioned shoe, Airia One offers a flexible and neutral option.
The Airia One is built with an air mesh upper for breathability.
The company has somehow found a way to make the mesh upper even better with the addition of cushioning. The shoe combines liberal use of open mesh with the brand’s quality materials for a feel that is both highly breathable and supportive.
#8 “Show me how it fits!”
One of the unique features of Airia is the ability to compare the One to a running shoe you already know and love, to find yourself the perfect fit. All you have to do is type the brand of your shoe and you’ll see how Airia One fits.
#9 The Performance
Airia One is both a high performer and a head turner. This unique shoe aims to help you achieve an unmatched running performance, being backed by science and thousands of hours of tests.
The One helps you reveal your true potential. There is this tremendous power hidden in every running step and Airia One works by unleashing this explosive energy. This helps you break records and push boundaries.
#10 The Experience
The Airia One has been expertly engineered, from the upper materials and design, through to the striking Ortholite X40 sole. The forefoot is roomy, perfectly ventilated and bends nicely. The uniquely designed irregular and sharply angled sole and upward-pointing toe harness the untapped power of the human body so they won’t leak energy like other running shoes. The result is a stronger, more natural stride with a faster and more enjoyable running experience.
“A 15 second PB. I had jumped in the rankings from 62nd to 46th. And not only that, the short run also included my fastest 2 mile estimated effort, my fastest single KM, my second fastest Mile and half-mile efforts and my 3rd fastest 400m estimated effort since I starting logging all training miles on Strava in May 2014.” – Peter Briley
And the best thing? The latest new design is currently being developed and will be released very soon. Here’s a sneak peek at the new Running shoe Airia 1.5!
